Hailed as “the master storyteller” and “one of the finest solo performers of his generation” by The New York Times, Mike Daisey is the preeminent monologuist in the theater today. He has been compared to Mark Twain, Orson Welles, P. T. Barnum, and a working man’s Homer for his provocative monologues that combine the political and the personal, weaving together secret histories with hilarity and heart. He is one of our most prolific theater artists, having created many dozens of acclaimed shows that have toured across the country and around the world. His novel-length theatrical works, running between 24 and 42 hours long, are critically lauded and among the largest live narrative feats ever created in theaters, including All The Hours In The Day, All The Faces Of The Moon, and his own adaptation of Howard Zinn’s A People’s History of the United States.
Mike will be in residence at NACL for a week with public performances on April 20, 21, and 22
LOBBY OPENS FOR ALL SHOWS AT 7:30
Over three nights Mike Daisey brings his unique monologues to NACL, telling stories that exist in the air they are told in. After a long pause during the pandemic, he’s emerging into spring taking stock of where we are, and breaking new ground, and doing that simple and complicated thing—to tell a great intimate story for the people who’ve come to share it.
Mike works extemporaneously, telling the story you are hearing on these nights for the very first time right in front of you. Some of the countless stories he's told this way over the years have included:
The tale of living for months on an island in the South Pacific where the people worship the idea of America, and tell the story of its history one day a year in dance, theater, and song.
A wild story of American utopias, comparing and contrasting being at Burning Man in the desert with Disney World in Florida with the birth of the Occupy movement at Zuccoti Park.
The biography of Donald Trump, in a show that accurately predicted he would win the presidency and be a corrosive force on democracy...BEFORE the election.
Each night Mike will tell a brand new story that stands on its own—come join us for one, or see all three to hear truly live work getting born in the moment.
