Let’s Dance!
Capping off our Queer Writers’ Residency and in homage to spring, we bring you this OUTRAGEOUS dance party on the occasion of Beltane, the pagan festival signifying the return to life after a long, dreary winter. So come let it all out, shake it up, whip it good, strike a pose, turn around, don’t leave your cake out in the rain, cause tonight we’re gonna party like it’s 1999, or 1979, or any night there in between.
Doors open at 7pm! Start the night right with Korean delicacies from the Bibimbus! First 25 on the dance floor get a free candy necklace!
There’ll be inspiring aerialist dance interludes from Hilary Melcher Chapman and Corinna Grunn, and your DJs, Catsilk (Lani Sciandra) and dj4thepeople (Damani Moyd), will be going deep in the club, digging into their 80s-90s vaults to trigger your nostalgia or your retro-fascination, sure ‘nuff. Head-spinning period video montage by VJ Catsilk Mountain will make your trip complete.
So raid your closet or the local vintage shops and dress your decade of choice (or mix them up)! And if you need some inspiration or reminders, we’re here for you:
80s
bring the mousse, eye shadow, zebra tights, track suit, leg warmers, shoulder pads, acid-wash, hi-top reeboks, headbands, and lots and lots of black rubber bracelets…
90s
cargo pants, overalls, baggy jeans, leopard prints, waffle long johns, gwen stefani t-shirt, combat boots, timberlands, new balance sneakers… sky pager? …oh, and lots of black rubber bracelets…
Special Thanks to Lani Sciandra for Dance Hall Design Inspiration and to Megan Hill, Halle Lindholm, and Marley Watson for making it stick.
